New Immigration Levels Plan expected soon

The Immigrant Levels Plan 2022-2024 aims to target 432,000 permanent residents. Every year, IRCC releases a new plan that outlines Canada’s immigration goals over the next three years and breaks it down into classes of immigration and their respective programs. The Immigration Levels Plan for 2022 targets 55,900 permanent residents via Express Entry. Between January and August 31, Canada admitted just over 28,000 permanent residents via Express Entry programs. A new Immigration Levels Plan will be released before November 1.

Express Entry is now available to physicians.
Canada has also lifted some barriers that prevented physicians from working and living in Canada to apply for Express Entry programs.

Because the Canadian medical system operates on a fee-for-service model, physicians were not eligible. This is different from a traditional employer/employer relationship. In a technical sense, this means that physicians are self-employed. An Express Entry application cannot be made for self-employed work experience in Canada.

A candidate is not ineligible if they are self-employed. An Express Entry program may be available to candidates with at least one year of experience working abroad or in Canada.

Changes in Express Entry
One exception for doctors is one of the first modifications to Express Entry. This can be expected to continue through 2023. In June, Bill C-19 was given Royal Assent by Parliament. It will allow IRCC to target Express Entry candidates based on work experience or education than the current system that issues ITAs solely based on CRS scores.

Canada invites 4,250 applicants to the latest all-program Express Entry draw. This was the eighth all-program draw since July 6.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry manages applications for Canadian immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), candidates who are part of the Express Entry pool can already be eligible for at least one program.

Express Entry uses the Comprehensive Rating System (CRS) to rank applicants’ profiles. It is a points-based system. The Invitation To Apply is given to the top-scoring candidates who can apply for permanent residence.

An IRCC officer will review the applicant’s application and determine if they have been approved. The officer may request additional documents or biometrics. If all of the above is done, the officer will approve the candidate and take them one step closer to becoming Canadian citizens.
