Canada offers medical exam exemptions for certain immigrants

Immigrants who are applying for citizenship in Canada might not have to take a second medical examination to be eligible to be granted permanent residence.

The Canadian migration office has restored an exception to clinical tests for a brief period on a couple of far off nationals who have applied for the movement. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended the medical exam exemption that is already in place on immigrants applying within Canada up to March 31st 2022.

The original public policy took effect in June and was scheduled to expire on the 28th of December. If foreign nationals are applying to become permanent residents, they have to submit an immigration medical examination or an unique medical identifier from their previous test.

This exemption permits them to not require another medical test when they’ve already passed one and meet the following requirements: They have made an application for permanent residence but they have not passed a new medical examination for immigration;

They have passed an examination for medical reasons in the past five years, and were determined to not pose a risk to the public’s safety or health or have met the requirement to submit reports to health authorities for surveillance the health of their patients and They haven’t been out of Canada for longer than six months within the past year in order to live in a nation that is on the list of countries that need an immigration medical examination. Family members of applicants might be admissible under this policy, provided they are also residents of Canada and satisfy the criteria above. IRCC will reach out to those who aren’t eligible to apply for the public policy in order to discuss next steps, the department of immigration announces in a news announcement.

IRCC adds that this policy will help streamline application processes for low-risk Canada-based applicants while at the same time limiting the health risks for everyone.

The goal of the policy is to speed up immigration processing. Even though IRCC has reached its goal of accepting 41,000 immigrants in the year to come, the agency has an immense backlog. Recent figures show that more than 1.8 million applicants for immigration are waiting to obtain permanent residency.
