Are your parent’s Canadian citizens?

Upload your proof of Citizenship application. You could be qualified to be granted Canadian citizenship if you were born overseas to a Canadian citizen.

You could be eligible for Canadian citizenship if born outside of Canada. At a minimum, one of your legal or biological parents was a Canadian citizen at birth.

The Canadian government’s method of determining whether you’re legally a Canadian citizen is to make a ” proof of Canadian citizenship” application. This is often referred to as applying for a “Canadian citizen’s certificate.”

It is possible to apply for the Canadian citizen’s certificate at any point in your life, regardless of whether you or your Canadian parent is still alive or dead. It is important to note that Canada does not permit citizenship by descent to only the first generation born outside of Canada or to an individual with a Canadian parent.

Alongside the Canadian birth certificate and the Canadian birth certificate, the Canadian citizen’s certificate of citizenship is among the two official documents recognized in the Passport Canada as proof of Canadian citizenship.
