Manitoba Reaches Out to Skilled Workers and Graduates With Strong Local Ties

On June 26, Manitoba extended invitations to individuals who have what the province values most—strong community connections and the potential to integrate easily into its workforce.

In its latest round of provincial nominations, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) targeted two specific groups: skilled workers recruited through provincial strategies, and international students supported by close family living in the province.

This move is part of Manitoba’s ongoing effort to bring in people who aren’t just qualified on paper, but are also likely to settle and thrive in the province.

478 Invitations Sent to International Students With Manitoba-Based Family

Manitoba’s International Education Stream continues to support graduates with strong roots in the province. In this draw, 478 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) were sent to individuals who met the usual eligibility criteria and also had a close relative currently living in Manitoba.

To qualify as a supporter, the family member must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Have lived in Manitoba for at least one year; and
  • Be a close relative of the applicant or their spouse.

Acceptable relationships include siblings, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and first cousins.

Applicants are expected to submit documentation that confirms both the family relationship and the duration of their relative’s residence in Manitoba. Supporters also need to provide a settlement plan, showing how they will help the applicant integrate locally.

If invited candidates are unable to meet these conditions, MPNP encourages them to decline the invitation rather than risk submitting an incomplete application.

14 Skilled Workers Selected Through Strategic Recruitment

In addition to the education stream, Manitoba also issued 14 invitations under its skilled worker categories. These candidates were picked based on participation in the province’s strategic recruitment initiatives.

Each of these applicants declared in their profile that they had been recruited through one of Manitoba’s targeted outreach programs. A minimum score of 712 was required to receive an invitation.

The breakdown of the 14 invitations is as follows:

Strategic initiatives are designed to meet Manitoba’s regional labour needs by connecting directly with candidates who are already in demand—whether by employers, rural towns, or communities seeking to grow their cultural presence.
